About Me

My name is Jade McLellan and I am mezzo-soprano originally from Yorkshire but now based in Birmingham. I first discovered opera at 4 years old after seeing it on the television and I genuinely thought I was witnessing magic! From then on my love affair with all things classical began.

Whilst I originally trained in healthcare and spent time living and working across Europe, I fell back into music after a seven year hiatus. I obtained a First Class Honours degree in classical music at Leeds Conservatoire and have recently completed a master's in classical voice and opera studies at The Royal Birmingham Conservatoire.

My recent roles include L'Opinion Publique in RBC's production of Orphee aux Enfers, Cherubino with Peterborough Opera Company, Zanetto (scenes) at RBC and chorus in L'Italiana in Algeri with Longhope Opera. I was a British Youth Opera Young Artist '25 as well as a Clonter Opera Artist '25. I am generously supported by the Tillet/Keer Trust and the Help Musician's Postgraduate Award.

In addition to performing, I am passionate about community music and accessible art. This influences my work as a workshop facilitator and through my connections with Birmingham Opera Company, with whom I frequently perform.

When not singing or workshopping, you can find me composing, writing poetry or short stories or probably up a mountain!
